The
family of this name (written in German as ILCZIK – see a picture
– here is the name with a little hook above a letter “c” which might be an evidence that the name was written by a Czech scribe
in German) is mentioned in historical documents concerning a village Dubnany
(from 1691).......

The main part of the websites is a history of my own ILČÍK family (ILCIK, ELCIK, ILCHIK, ILLCZIK etc.) and its geographical position on the whole area of former Austria-Hungary. Although the Moravian branch of the Ilčík family comes from one of the firstly settled Czech-Moravian locality – Hodonín’s area, it is not easy to find written documents describing its history. There is no problem to trace ancient owners of the demesne up to the period of the constitution of Regional Boards (1348), however, next centuries were merciless to this fertile borderline region situated near Slovakia (Hungary in the past). The age of Thirty Year War, recurrent regroupments of soldieries fighting against Turk and border scuffles meant a doom for lots of villages and families. Members of the Ilčík family had been of peasantry origin up to the beginning of 20th century. Only then some sons of Ilčík’s family became miners (south of Moravia is rich in – apart from petrol – deposits of poor-quality lignite) or employees of some of industrial enterprises. As language specialists say, the origin of the family name might be derived from the forename Jiljí – the present name “Ilčík” is its diminutive. The name was also distorted through translating into German language. The family has stayed on mostly at the territory of the former Hodonín’s demesne. After the II World War, the name started to
The family became known owing to local legends telling about a supposed ancestor who might have been an outlaw. This legend has survived in Hodonín’s region in particular although there is no evidence that somebody was an outlaw. There are ancient mentions about an outlaw Adamčík’s and Ilčík’s company. The author of „Old Czech Legends“, Alois Jirásek, who linked their life and stories about Jura Jánošík, the most famous Slovak outlaw, skilfully utilized them. However, they had missed each other by about 80 years. Ilčík acts here as Jánošík’s most favourite fellow – gajdošík (a bagpiper) who betrays him at last. In Moravian legends, Ilčík is often depicted as an alone outlaw whose life is very similar to Jánošík’s life. Owing to these legends, his abilities gained preternatural character through the ages. The legend is beautiful but in the year of Jánošík’s death my family was firmly settled in Dubňany. (See the document from 1691). I described this family tradition also in my contribution for Czech Broadcasting Company Brno in August 2001. Entering the websites, apart from the outlaw legend you may find references to interesting projects worked out by my friends in the field of genealogy. It could be also interesting for people who are starting with the genealogy. A history of my hometown Dubňany and photos taken on our family trips are presented there, too.
I ask all representatives of the Ilčík family (also outside the Czech Republic) to contact me if they think they might come under some forgotten part of the family and have found some of their ancestor in the graphic part. (From abroad, please in German or English). For information – in 2001 only 178 living users of Ilčík’s name were registered in the Czech Republic. I am working on the occurrence of the name by localities step by step. I apologize to foreign visitors but websites are only in the Czech language because I am not able to translate the whole text (about 800 pages) into English. And in addition, German or Latin languages are more suitable for that kind of historical researching.
